I grew up in an upper middle class suburb on Long Island, encouraged by my parents and peers to get a good education (I have a BA from NYU) and get a good job. I always excelled in school, and I worked as a film editor, administrator, and nutrition counselor, but something was missing. The only time I felt creative, playful, in the flow of life, was when I got out of my head and into my body: dance, Yoga, Massage, and Tantric practices.
I believe that by nature, we are programmed to seek pleasure and avoid pain. When we repress a part of ourselves, what we resist persists. When we are in touch with our deepest desires underneath the superficial ones, we can make choices that support long term, and not just short term pleasure.
I used to be self critical, and it took me many years of training and practice to get to the place of feeling that "its right because I did it."
I've noticed that the spiritual teachers I have the most respect for are the ones who have a good sense of humor, that once we have a higher perspective, we can "laugh with the gods," which doesn't mean I don't deeply respect and take seriously the delicate, vulnerable things that you share with me.
"A true master is not one with the most students but one who creates the most Masters.
A true leader is not one with the most followers but one who creates the most leaders.
A true king is not the one with the most subjects, but one who leads the most to royalty.
A true teacher is not the one with the most knowledge but one who causes the most others to have knowledge."
-Conversations with God, by Neale Donald Walsch
I've studied with enough teachers to discover that learning has limitations. If there are skills that you need to learn, learning them will make you more successful. And if there is a lack of fulfillment somewhere in your life, it may be UN-learning habits or beliefs that prevent us from getting what we want.
That said, I have over 1000 hours of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage training, and have studied Tantra and Sacred Intimacy with Charlies Miur, Teeni Dakini, Lauri Handlers, Carla Tara, Juliana Dahl, Chandra Devi, Mama Gena, More House, Body Electric, and One Taste. I am a Certified Holistic Health Counselor through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and a Life Coach Certification through Bryan Franklin. I've spent the past 10 years studying Yoga, meditation, Qi Gong, Martial Arts, Tantric and Taoist sexual practices, Reiki, and Massage, so I could guide people in how to tap into their body's wisdom in a healthy, natural way. I am currently completing a Hatha Yoga Teacher Training.
